Why Develop Grain Corn in Japan?

There are two major reasons we have been developing grain corn domestically in Japan.

• The demand for staple rice has been declining more rapidly than expected in recent years due to the declining domestic population and per capita consumption of rice.
• The agricultural population is also declining rapidly, and young farmers are limited in the amount of labor time they can devote to each unit of land.

Therefore, we decided to introduce and develop highly efficient cultivation methods for corn seedlings by collaborating with farmers.
